Our destination? The enchanting Swan Valley awaits! Picture this: smooth paths winding through picturesque landscapes\, with a backdrop of world-class wines and mouthwatering treats. \nNow\, don’t worry about the terrain – we are talking hills\, not mountains! Weir Road’s ascent might get your heart pumping\, but at just 1.4km with a 13% gradient\, it’s more exhilarating than daunting. And that other hill? Piece of cake! With a 6.5% gradient and less than a kilometer to conquer. \nBut wait\, there’s more! A pit stop awaits at Herne Hill for a cozy coffee break. And for our esteemed seniors\, a special treat awaits: 10% off the All Day Breakfast menu when you flash your senior’s card. \nSo\, lace up those cycling shoes\, grab your sense of humor\, and let’s pedal our way to a day filled with laughter\, scenic views\, and maybe a few unexpected surprises along the way. So when 2023 came round and most of the world opened up again\, it seemed a good idea to put these stalled plans into action. Their plan was to cycle from The Netherlands through Belgium and France\, into Spain and possibly onwards to Santiago de Compostella which is the end point for the Camino walks that go through Portugal\, Spain and France. Others would call the intended journey an awakening of spirit and consciousness as one journeys through rural Europe and experiences the cuisine\, customs and religious mores of the locals\, leading to spiritual enlightenment and a feeling of deep inner contentment. Doug and Rickus just thought it would be a bloody good pub crawl! \nSo come and listen to how they were in Europe for around 60 days\, cycled for 42 days\, covered just over 2500km\, slept on the ground for 32 days in succession\, and had expenses of around A$60 per day when cycling. Biggest day was just over 90km\, and hardest day was up and over the Pyrenees. Not speaking French or Spanish was not a problem\, no-one really understands old men anyway\, especially cranky\, wild looking Australian types like the 2 of them! \n\nNoel & Connie : From Stockholm to Brussels \nThe plan was to follow the Euro Velo 8 down the east coast of Sweden through quaint little villages to Malmo. Then crossing to Copenhagen\, Denmark by train before arriving in Germany. A few days cycling in Germany before reaching Hamburg where we travelled by train to Den (The) Hague in the Netherlands. From there it was another train trip to the town of Maastricht which is a beautiful historic city\, in the very south east of the Netherlands. Then to Belgium – Ypres (famous for the battles that took place during the First World War)\, Bruges\, Ghent and finally to arrive in Brussels. Connie and Noel will fill in the details with postcard photos and stories of their trip. \nSilent Auction \nA kind cyclist has generously donated some good quality cycle touring items. So this is the one time when we ask you to bring some cash or your bank account number to participate in the silent auction. All funds raised will go to a good cause\, namely the CTA (or if I have my way\, it will go towards another fabulous Social night). Here’s a sneak-peak on what some of them are (RRP$ when new)\, with our very own in-house model who hasn’t been paid a cent. \nFor further information\, please ring Jeremy on 0466 271 481 or email info@ctawa.asn.au. \n\n• Richard Jones Convertible Pannier/Backpack (Rear only) USD$282.00\n• Arkel Waterproof Handlebar Bag $272.00\n• Topeak Handlebar Bag $59.49\n• 1 pair Cannondale 6 point 3 Platform pedals $62.00\n• 2x Pro Bottle Cage $29.99 each\n• Richard Jones Classic Convertible Pannier/Backpack (Front & Rear Panniers convert to backpack) USD$495.00\n\n     URL:https://ctawa.asn.au/event/social-night-2024-04 LOCATION:The RISE Community Centre\, 28 Eighth Avenue\, Maylands\, Western Australia\, 6051\, Australia CATEGORIES:Meeting,Social END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=Australia/Perth:20240407T083000 DTEND;TZID=Australia/Perth:20240407T123000 DTSTAMP:20240328T183325 CREATED:20240310T094303Z LAST-MODIFIED:20240326T004907Z UID:9096-1712478600-1712493000@ctawa.asn.au SUMMARY:*** New Start Time *** To the Nearest of Faraway Places (and back!) with FastBananas¹ DESCRIPTION:  \nNotes:  1.  The name has been changed to protect Jane’s anonymity.  Please respect this choice during the ride. \nStart Time:  Meet at 08:30 for an 08:45 start.  Sunrise today is 06:32. \nStart Location:  Murdoch Station\, east end of Station overpass. \nDescription:  Leaving Murdoch station we head east to join the Roe Hwy path then turning north to pick up the Tonkin Hwy. This will be an un-supported full pannier tour focused primarily on riders prepared to camp at the respective caravan parks along the way.  Advanced reservation of camping sites at caravan parks to accommodate tour participants has been made and will be managed on behalf of campers by the Tour Organiser. \nThe chosen route has been varied to enable those participants who elect not to camp to seek alternative accommodation in towns in which we will stay overnight.  However\, be aware there are a few small towns where finding alternate accommodation is very limited\, plus anybody electing not to camp is personally responsible for making their own respective reservations and arranging direct payment with the venues of their choice. \nBy their very nature\, linear tours necessitate the transportation of riders\, bikes and gear to either the start or back from the end destination of an event.  Logistically\, the management of this exercise has its limitations depending on vehicles utilised to move people and equipment.  A tourist coach towing a luggage trailer\, along with utilising the CTA bicycle trailer will determine the overall capacity of riders able to participate in this event.  Also contributing to a cap on numbers is the limited capacity of some smaller caravan parks to accommodate campers. \nBased upon the above determinates\, the overall capacity for this event will be limited to 30 entrants. \nThis tour is open to CTA members and given the limitation on the overall number of participants\, registrations for the event will only be accepted from members prepared to undertake the entire event.  Please consider your situation carefully\, thereby minimising the risk of possibly taking a scarce position away from another club member who may miss out as a result of your decision. \n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n \nPlease direct any inquiries via email to teebs50@gmail.com \nTrevor\nCTAWA 50th Anniversary Tour Organiser \nThe tour itinerary is available here\n\nThe daily GPX tracks (and maps) are available here \nFor those joining in Albany\, the venue is:\nTasman Holiday Park\n22 Wellington Street\nAlbany WA URL:https://ctawa.asn.au/event/cta-50th-anniversary-tour LOCATION:East Perth Station\, East Pde\, East Perth CATEGORIES:Main Events,Tour,Touring bike END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=Australia/Perth:20240421T080000 DTEND;TZID=Australia/Perth:20240421T120000 DTSTAMP:20240328T183325 CREATED:20240313T104216Z LAST-MODIFIED:20240321T134917Z UID:9147-1713686400-1713700800@ctawa.asn.au SUMMARY:Western Suburbs Wander with Peter & Tessa DESCRIPTION:  \nToday’s ride is led by the famous Peter and Tessa tag team.  Sunrise at 06:42. \nStart Time:  Meet at 08:00 for 08:15 depart. \nStart Location:  Narrows Bridge\, south side near the toilet block. \nDescription:  It’s the Western Suburbs Wander!  What more can be said?  Not much\, due to security concerns.
