Australia Day Long Weekend Guilderton Spoke Tour

Saturday January 26, 2019 @ 8:00 am - Monday January 28, 2019 @ 5:00 pm

Distance: ~100km: , ,

A new exciting spoke tour to Guilderton is planned for the 2019 January Australia Day long weekend being Saturday the 26th to Monday the 28th.  We have a three bedroom house with full kitchen and bathroom with room on the back lawn for tenting.  There is no safe way to cycle to Guilderton, especially since it is a long weekend so car transportation is in order.  Members wishing to participate may want to car pool.

To get to there:

From the Yanchep National Park turn off, you continue onto the Indian Ocean Drive approximately 36 km’s and turn left onto Guilderton Road eventually becoming Mortimer Road.  Approximately 200 m after the Moore River Road House, Burnett St is the first turn on the right.  The address is #6 Burnett St, Guilderton.

Itinerary:

Saturday, 26th January 2019 (Australia Day)

Please arrive around 10.30 am so we can settle in and for those wanting to put up tents.

After a cup of tea, it is planned to ride into town, well it ain’t far, for lunch or maybe from the Road House.  Or bring your own in an eski.  Weather permitting we may just ride all the quiet roads of Guilderton and have a good Captain Cook.  There is the Guilderton Light House but there is a small amount of limestone road to get there.

Today is Australia Day.  Aussie, Aussie, Aussie.  So it is planed to have a picnic dinner on the beautiful green grass (and it very well is) on the river foreshore nearby to the General Store.  Bring your own cold cuts and salad, chardie and/or beer to celebrate.  Bbq facilities are available or you can order fish and chips from the General Store.  And of course, bring something Ostralian to wear.  I think around 4.30ish sounds good and if hot enough, a dip in the Moore River will be in order.  So bring your cozies.  Depending on the atmosphere down on the foreshore, we may have a few quiet ones down there or back at the house.

Sunday, 27th January 2019

Choices ,choices, choices.  If really hot, we may go for a very early morning ride back up the Guilderton Road to the new hamlet of Woodridge off the Indian Ocean Drive where there is the Verge 301 Cafe for brecky, or morning tea, approximately a 30 km ride return.  We can check out all the quiet roads there too.

Back at the house, we can go swimming at the beach or the river, go canoeing or kayaking (if you have’em, bring’um), explore the river mouth and if it is open go on the other side of the river.  Members may want to do a spot of fishing early in the morning or evening.  Photography may be in order this weekend.

Lunch and the evening meal to be decided.  Again, either bring your own or obtain from Road House or General Store.

Monday,28th January 2019

I guess most members will want to beat the traffic so it is planned to leave probably late morning.  Of course after the mandatory general clean up.

Accommodation:

There is 3 bedrooms, 2 with 2 single beds and one with a double bed.   First in best dressed.  A fold out double bed in the lounge area.  There is a large room upstairs with views and to catch sea breezes which can be used for sleeping.  Or tenting on the lawn at the back.

Only one bathroom and one toilet.

Food and what to bring, what is supplied:

You are to bring all your own towels, toiletries and bedding, food and drink, esky (there is only one fridge and ice can be obtained from the General Store or Road House), kayak/canoe, swimming cozies and beach towel, wine glass and/or stubby holder, fishing gear, Frisbee, football, cricket bat (all that Ozzie stuff), Ostraliana clothing, Vegemite, don’t forget the Aeroguarde, the Chair and/or picnic blanket.  And your bike because we are a cycling club.

For those into golf, you may want to bring your golf clubs but first check if you can place a round at the Guilderton Golf Club.

Costs:

$10/person/night.  Total $20 for two nights.
