To round off the “Around the world on 2 wheels” theme for 2024, our last social night will cover another continent – Africa. The second talk will be a wrap up for the year – a comparison of cycle touring in different countries and what not to expect.

Cycle Touring in West Africa
Who would have been mad enough to think about cycling in Africa, especially 20 years ago? Well, Jeremy & Silvia did, and live to tell the tale. Come and hear about their cycle tour through West Africa. The Tour d’Afrique de l’occident. It could just as easily be called the “Tour of Embassies’ Medical Centres” or the “Tour negotiating through Police and Army road blocks” or “Tour of some really terrible Restaurants”. Whatever it’s called, you’ll hear of the joys and tribulations of touring in West Africa.

North or South? East or West? Cycling is the best!
As a finale to this year’s social nights, Yew Li and Patrick will be back just in time to do a “compare and contrast” talk between cycle touring in UK/Europe vs Japan/Asia. Same same but different!

As usual, there will be some great food to accompany the talks at break time. Don’t forget to bring your own mug if you want a cuppa. If you have lost weight during winter, bring in your old cycling stuff for those who have put on. The swap table will be there as usual for all bike related stuff.
