CTA 50th Anniversary Tour

Saturday April 20 - Sunday May 5

Distance: ~840km: , ,

Since the inception of the Cycle Touring Association of WA in 1974, a tradition of conducting a long-distance cycling tour has been held marking each successive decade.

In 2024 the Club celebrates a milestone, achieving 50 years of continuous operation in providing a wide variety of recreational and social rides to members, with a focus on cycle touring.  In light of this achievement, a tour has been devised generally following previous routes from Albany to Perth, as best as is able following the south west coastline of Western Australia.

An 840km tour will be conducted over 16 days from Saturday 20 April to Sunday 5 May 2024. This will be an un-supported full pannier tour focused primarily on riders prepared to camp at the respective caravan parks along the way.  Advanced reservation of camping sites at caravan parks to accommodate tour participants has been made and will be managed on behalf of campers by the Tour Organiser.

The chosen route has been varied to enable those participants who elect not to camp to seek alternative accommodation in towns in which we will stay overnight.  However, be aware there are a few small towns where finding alternate accommodation is very limited, plus anybody electing not to camp is personally responsible for making their own respective reservations and arranging direct payment with the venues of their choice.

By their very nature, linear tours necessitate the transportation of riders, bikes and gear to either the start or back from the end destination of an event.  Logistically, the management of this exercise has its limitations depending on vehicles utilised to move people and equipment.  A tourist coach towing a luggage trailer, along with utilising the CTA bicycle trailer will determine the overall capacity of riders able to participate in this event.  Also contributing to a cap on numbers is the limited capacity of some smaller caravan parks to accommodate campers.

Based upon the above determinates, the overall capacity for this event will be limited to 30 entrants.

This tour is open to CTA members and given the limitation on the overall number of participants, registrations for the event will only be accepted from members prepared to undertake the entire event.  Please consider your situation carefully, thereby minimising the risk of possibly taking a scarce position away from another club member who may miss out as a result of your decision.
